Cape Weed

How To Kill Cape Weed

Cape Weed is an annual herb with light green leaves noticeable with a very large serrated outline, the bottom of the leaves are usually a silvery white colour. Germination begins in Autumn, and the life cycle continues until late Spring or early Summer when it sends out its single yellow flower with a black centre, for pollination and seeding.

Cape Weed Cultural Management

The continuing life cycle of Cape Weed can be controlled by regular mowing whenever its flowers or seed heads are apparent. By constant removal of it's seeds, the weed misses it's only means of reproducing.

Hand pulling is also an easy and effective treatment, as well as hoeing over the small seedlings.

Cape Weed Herbicides

Both Selective and Non Selective Herbicides can be used to easily control Cape Weed. Herbicides are readily available at nurseries in a concentrated form which needs to be diluted with water prior to application by sprayer or watering can.

Lawn Care Facts
Lawn Fact:
A waxy coating on the grains of soil is responsible for the water repelling effect that is often seen in soils, resulting in poor lawn or plant health. In a similar manner to detergents, Wetting Agents will break down this waxy coating, allowing for easier water absorption and retention. Wetting Agents should be included as a normal part of the maintenance routine of every lawn and applied at least twice a year.
